FYI:
I recently read that factory HID headlights have an auto leveling feature that adjusts the angle of the beam as you go up hill/top of a hill etc. It is designed so that you do not blind an oncoming motorist. Apparently, aftermarket kits do not have that feature and it is AGAINST the law to have one installed. The police could stop you by state law in Wisconsin. Not sure if it applies in your state but you may want to look into it before making the upgrade.

I am not bagging on any suppliers as I am sure they make/distribute quality components, but just a heads up to check into local laws so you do not get pulled over at the wrong time.

Thats all BS, only some cars that have OEM HID headlights adjust to the steering not all. Yeah HID's arent' legal but they aren't illegal either, just like smoked tails.
Plus as longas you don't aim them high up you'll be perfectly fine!

Thats true, just dont want anyone to get pulled over for the wrong reason. I see alot of stuff on the road that looks like they should be illegal, but??

For the record, i think HID are by far the best form or lighting that can be installed in any vehicle for nighttime driving. Their simply is no comparison to Halogen, etc.

I have yet to drive a vehicle with LED though..........

BTW, I upgraded to Silverstars in my 07 Denali and they are significantly better than factory. I can only assume that HID would be 10X better in the Yukons/Tahoes, etc..

My 08 Mustang GT Vert has factory HID and WOW, what difference.

My goal was not to offend any of the sincerely appreciated sponsors of this forum, only to shed some light on some of the crazy laws that may exist in your community.

My Lexus has the auto-leveling HID's that also rotate outward in the direction of the turn that I am making. It's pretty cool feature seeing the light beam rotate back towards the center after making a turn.

We have auto levelling on our Mini Cooper S - very cool watching them do their 'salute' at startup in the garage.

Mine too.

And in regards to the OP, I think you are correct that HIDs need to be adjusted correctly. They should have a very distinct cut off pattern as to not blind oncoming drivers. Every vehicle that I have been with HIDs has self-adjusted. Not steering sensitive, but height senstive. I don't want to buy the aftermarkets and end up with 'bright' but 'sloppy' light patterns. I can save some bucks and just get brighter bulbs. Besides, in Las Vegas I don't even need headlights.

My moms acadia has stock HIDS but they dont do squat. They just are really bright and they ROCK

My dads enclave has stock Hids and they rotate side to side, which is the coolest thing ever. I love the start up when they align them selves. Really cool.

My bad Catnhatfan I dind't mean to sound offende because I wasn't at all, just trying to let you know something. Auto-leveling HID's are cool but even Escalades don't have em.
Plus Platiinum Escalades are likt the only cars that have LED headlights (don't even know if they later cancelled it or not) but those would be cool.

In the state of Md and probally many other states (I checked with our inspector). If a car does not come with HID and is not a option for the factory or sold by the dealer as a upgrade it fails state inspection there for is illegal. He said that he would probally pass tahoe and yukon because the escalade and denali are esentually the same truck and they have them. Older (per hid) tahoe would fail

04 and up escalades have HIDs. But even then, an 07 tahoe is no better off with HIDS than an 06 tahoe, even though they have different headlights. Bad on your inspector for thinking they were the same. Since the housings are completly different. Good on him though for still passing them.
