Has anyone else noticed that the tailgate area is impossible to keep clean, or is it just me...?
Seems I can wash truck and after a short drive, the gate and upper portion of the rear bumper cover are covered in dirt.

That pretty much goes with any square back vehicle, at least that's been my experience over the years with station wagons, minivans, and now Tahoes.

While going down the road, as air moves around the outside of a vehicle, a vacuum is created at the rear. This low pressure area will "suck" up dirt and debris, which is why the back always gets dirty so fast. The air moves slightly different on cars, and the low pressure is created at the rear bumper area. That's why we have rear wipers and cars don't:D

Get a California Duster. Works great.

+1

They're great if you only have a little dust on the vehicle. I prefer the duster followed with a quick detailer spray. The QD spray works great for quick touch ups like removing bugs, bird droppings, etc and is safe on the paint when used with a microfiber. The QD spray works on glass and plastic too.

I agree. Currently I'm using Mothers Detail Spray. I already have the Duster for exterior and the little one for the dash.
In the morning when I leave for work the car is wet from condensation, so the duster is usless even after the truck dries. The spray or a wash is only answer at this point. A pia for white truck owners.

I haven't tried it yet, as I'm still finishing off my stash of the plain old Meg's QD. Maybe I'll use the old stuff as clay lube so I have an excuse to add another bottle of something to the shelf. I've read good things about the new stuff however and look forward to trying it. What do you think of it?

Haven't tried it yet either. Too much QD on the shelf plus it's pretty pricey. :ack: Guess I'll just have to start using more of the old stuff.

I've got a question for you...have you found any tricks to easily clean and maintain the top of a Tahoe?

Good luck with that!! I will wash my Tahoe, spend about 20 minutes on the top alone to get it clean and even wax it, 2 days later its as dirty as it was before I washed it, at this point I'm ready to give up on it!! :Chevy:

I stand on the top of the rear tire and can reach from the luggage rack back. Just use the step tubes to reach the front part. Not easy but don't have to drag out a step stool.

Yeah, I used to do that with other tall vehicles when I was 40 lbs lighter and thought people besides myself actually cared... Still, I would like a good way to keep the top nice and clean, which I why I suppose I use the car wash once a week. Not the crappy gas station ones -- NO NO NO -- the real ones with the gentle microfiber fabric flaps that oscillate. Nothing beats a hand wash though -- kudos for having the energy to keep it up as long as you have!

Any particular style/type/size that works better than the other? I think I'm gonna invest in this to keep her nice and shiny between weekly washes...

I have all of about $12 invested in my California Duster. It's the original that's about 2' long and has red 'bristles.' If you don't already use it, I can't recommend a good quick detailer spray enough. The combination of duster and QD will keep you vehicle in nice shape, and do it safely, between washes.

As for the top of my Tahoe, the step ladder is the best way I've figured out so far. I'm too tall, and not nearly graceful enough, to stand on the rear tire and work when it's in the garage.

Questions/Suggestions on my new auto-care shopping list:

Okay -- I think I'm going by Advance Auto Parts / Auto Zone later, and here's my new short-list for "quick detailing". Any additional suggestions welcome.

1) Meguiars Ultimate Quick Detailer Spray - will this do nice things for my factory chrome wheels as well?
2) Some new microfiber towels, preferably Meguiars Supreme - will the no-name cheap microfiber ones work well too?
3) Meguiars Insane Shine Tire Spray - aerosol foam? pump? which is better and why?
4) Stoners Invisible Glass - aerosol
5) California Duster - 15" original version

Many thanks!

------------------

BTW, here's what I have been using:

1) Eagle-One Nanowax spray
2) Microfiber towels (need to be replaced), just no-name brand
3) Eagle-One tire spray (pump)
4) Eagle-One 20/20 glass cleaner
5) Household fiber wand duster

Do you think the new list would be an improvement?
