My Yukon suffered some damage on the dash around the a/c vent. I suspect that it was caused by a scented oil air freshener. Have any of you experienced this? If so, what products should we all avoid using?

Scented oil air fresheners.

Seriously tho, I'd avoid any non-car care liquids/creams/sprays around the interior. Never know what kind of chemicals they contain.

I've had numerous customers come in that have the oil fresheners that clip to the vents. Most of them look like the finish on the dash has wrinkled or some how deformed by the oil dripping or splashing onto the dash.

What gets me is that this was a product that is marketed for automobiles. It says on the package (I noticed after the fact) that it may harm some vehicle interiors if spilled. Come on, maybe a stain or something. I still can't believe that a company as big as the one that sells this item would keep it on the market knowing that it will deteriorate the very surroundings that it is meant to be used in.

My wife uses those oil fresheners in the house that have a little fan in them. One day she set the box on top of a plastic table protector for a few hours and if wrinkled the plastic badly. The vapors from the oil attacked the plastic.

All I can say is that it's toast, but I realize you're not even asking about if you can fix it. Glad I always avoided those, mainly because they look so bad. Someone should definitely make it well known that that thing comes with a risk to damage oh say 100X its own worth. I want to know which company has a dirty little secret but with this product it's probably all of them, made in the same region, the same way, by a number of factories, with so many different combinations of packaging, design, and company names it's in the tens of thousands, a different label on the shelf every few months. Maybe not though, I never really paid any attention to them. Might have a better chance with the ones in the cans. Might as well just throw a tree under the seat every now and then.
