AC Compressor lock-up

I have a 2001 Tahoe with Rear Air. After replacing the comressor, the air worked great for 3 weeks, and then the compressor locked up during our trip to Florida. Made noise and a terrible melting plastic smell. Just for the heck of it, I tried it again when I got back, and it worked great. Then a few weeks later, it locked up again. Seems to lock up when its real hot outside.

I cant figure it out. Is it possible that has too much refrigerant? Any other thoughts?

does anyone know what the correct gauge readings should be on an 80 degree day?

Yes, it is possible that you have either too much or too little freon, the proper gauge reading is suppose to be 40psi I believe on the low pressure side. But I am not 100% on that.

How can the compressor lock-up be caused by "low pressure"?

My gauge readings are 35 and around 150 (when the compressor is turning of course).
