Hi everyone...i'm new here. :cool2:

anyway I've had my 1999 tahoe for about 2years now and ever since I had it it's had a few issues (minor I hope):

1. The thing sounds like a squeeky mattress on wheels.
No Joke! wether i'm cruising at 25 or speeding along at 65, the chassis squeeks and shakes like a squeeky mattress. And even if I go over a small bump, like a sewer lid or something like that, i can actually hear the springs shocks or struts (whatever they are) actually recoil down there...I mean I can hear them bounce back up kinda hard....it's not that loud but it definitely prevents me from sneaking out of the driveway on poker nights! :mad2:
That makes for a somewhat rough and noisy ride.
What should I be asking the autoshops to check for?
I've already taken it into a few shops and they've both said they coudn't really find anything wrong but who knows if they really checked.

2. Sometimes when i'm at a stop light (idle), I can hear a rattling behind the instrument panel....it's like there's something loose back there or something and it's shaking with the vibrations of the engine, but when I accelerate, it goes away. Whatever it is I want it to stop! lol
ANy ideas?

Thanks for the help. :yesnod:

PS: it's a 1999 tahoe, 82000 miles, LT....hope that helps.

The squeaks from the rear suspension are from your leaf springs. The factory leafs have some pads in between to keep them quiet. It's a natural tendency for the leafs (metal to metal) to rub and squeak. If you want to test it out, try spraying a little bit of oil/grease, etc onto the leafs and see if the sound goes away. I shoot Amsoil heavy duty metal protector onto my leafs if they start to squeak, and that helps it (I have add-a-leafs in my leaf pack). **Also, make sure you don't get oil on your brakes... or you'll be calling your insurance company real soon.

And if its not the Leafs its the shocks.. 4 new shocks wont cost that much and are probably a good investment if you havent replaced them - does the body roll more since you bought it 2yrs ago?
