Hi everyone,
I need to replace a transmission on a '99 Tahoe 4x4 4L60E, push button 4x4. I have done a little bit of research and I can not get a straight answer on what year transmissions will work with this truck.
From what I have come to understand, the 98+ have a 5 bolt tailshaft connection to the transfer case, whereas the 97 and olders have a 4 bolt. The 97 and olders also have a 1 piece trans, where the 98+ have a removable bellhousing. I have heard the 97 and older have slightly different shift points, which I don't care about. It appears that I can only use a trans from a 98-00, not a 97 or older, which makes things slightly more difficult because I have the ability to get a 97 trans for a good price.
With that said, I have also heard/seen a lot of people say that the 97 will work just fine- as long as it has the 20 piece connector where the harness plugs in.
Can anybody give me a straight answer? I don't want to go drop a bunch of money on a trans that won't work.
Thanks in advance!
