Hi All,

I have a 97 Yukon (4x4) with towing package. I am interested in a rig (boat and trailer) about 8000lb and will be towing it for about 3 miles each way for launching. I know it's over the recommended towing capacity but am wondering if it will be OK just for a short distance like 3 miles. Has anyone done it in the similar situation?

Thanks for your response.

What rear gears do you have, probably be fine, keep it out of higher gears....

Very dumb and irresponsible thing to even attempt. The towing weight capacity of any vehicle is rated for the suspension and brakes that were installed on the vehicle at the factory. You are setting yourself up for an out of control vehicle situtation which makes you a danger to all on the road and anyone in your vehicle.

Not to mention your rearend, transmission and wheel bearings could end up with premature failure especially for a 1997 vehicle that already has normal wear and tear on those components.

Dont mean to sound harsh but man it is a bad idea!

Look for a boat and trailer combo 7000 lbs or less! Thats about all you should pull with this rig.

Its not a good idea, but with extremly short distance on boat launching, with a good rig and 3 mile trip there would be less to be concerned with than driving a 300 mile trip.

That being said, it is usually best not to tow with an underrated rig (and or liscensing-spelling?)
