97 Yukon Fuel pump Q

My 97 yukon's just failed out of nowhere with no prior symptom. Odd, as I replaced it a couple years ago with a GM Delco replacement. I would think a GM unit would last more than a couple years.

Q 1: Are there any better quality units out there? Tried a cheap Aeromotive aftermarket before I went OEM, and it buzzed terribly.

Q 2: Any thing I might check out before dropping the tank? Underhood relay was swapped and no help. Anything else that might have failed?

Yanno, these pumps have quite a demand on them. They are asked to produce 60+psi for extended periods of time. True they should be designed to do so, but they die.

Other than checking for relay operation, reading psi through a fuel gauge, and checking for power to the pump, thats all you can do.

Don't let this OEM style pump deter you from going OEM again. IMHO, thats the best choice.

Yeah, I'm usually a fan of OEM myself usually.

Haven't checked the pressure, but I don't hear it running at all, and the truck fires right up on starting fluid. Although at first, I certainly thought the spark looked seriously weak. Thought THAT was the issue at first actually.

Sucks, I have a High performance walbro 355 lph @ 45 pounds pump on my Nitrous Stang that has ran for like 10 years! And that car gets a lot of miles. Was sorta hard to believe this GM one died considering how expensive it was and that it doesnt really see a lot of driving... Oh well, what can ya do. It's a been a good truck otherwise for sure.

I'll double check the wiring. Can't jack it high enough in my garage to drop the tank, so off to my old trans shop to get it on a lift.
