Last week I lost 3rd & 4th gear in my 97 4wd Hoe. 1st gear has been slipping a while so I knew the trans was just toast. I pulled the trans and had a shop rebuild it. I put it back in today. Took it down the road and it shifts great.

I decided to head down a power line to test out the 4wd and lo and behold...nothing. Here's what I'm getting. I put it in neutral, switch to 4 hi and I hear a click in the trans area but the front tires won't spin. So I tried 4lo and it clunks into low gear. When I move the gearing is definitely reduced however the front tires won't spin. In both hi and lo the light blinks and won't stay on.

So it seems the front driveshaft is the only thing that's not engaging. I've double and triple rechecked all of the connections on the trans/t-case. Any body had this before? The 4wd worked flawlessly before this.

Well, you have to engage the front axle and the Tcase has to engage the output to the front axle. You need to narrow down what isn't engaging. Put the truck into 4x4, try to turn the front prop shaft with the front end off the ground. Spin one of the front tires.

If the other tire spins, front end is locked and probably Tcase issue. If front propshaft is not spinning (locked into gear) then front end not engaging.
