All,
Recently purchased a 95 tahoe, the car was very affordable and I suspected that I would have to change the shift linkage after running the ticks of the cars shift patterns through a few google searches….
When I bought the car it would not shift out of park after it was initiated, so when you turned it off, to get it back on you had to shift it into neutral to start it, then move into Drive or reverse from there. Also, shifted very stiff and rough.
Next morning went to go start it and it was not moving into neutral to start, eventually after forcing pretty hard the shift went down all the way to first gear where the shifter literally ripped out of the housing of the steering wheel etc.
Purchased new shifter this weekend from junk yard and swapped it out, planning on putting the new shifter cable on it tonight or tomorrow, however I was curious if anyone knew a way for me to get the car into neutral for the swap out itself (the instruction manual says to install cable in neutral) or into park until I can fix it without the shifter cable engaged? Currently car sits with battery unplugged because it cannot be turned off while first gear is engaged. Sorry for lack of concision. Any advice appreciated.

cant you manualy shift it from under the truck without the linkage hooked up? should be able to just make sure to block the wheels so it doesnt run over you or have someone inside to hit the brakes
