I have a buddy at work that has an '03 1500 truck that he had to replace the tranny in. That part went OK. Everything worked OK for awhile (4X4 also), but now he says that when the 4X4 button is pushed, the transfer case locks in, but won't turn the front wheels. Anyone had this happen before ??? Thanks...Dave

there is an actuator on the front differential to lock the axles 90% of the time if the transfer case is spinning the front drive shaft the actuator is faulty it also has an electrical connector on it make sure the wiring is not broken.

I mentioned an acutator to him because mine had gone out one time. It's the heat activated actuator that's bolted to the front end on the passenger side. Mine was a '90 model though. He says his '03 does not have that on it, so I don't really have a clue what engages the front end....
