Hei. I have problemes with my 4wd on my Tahoe 6,5 td 98 mod
I can hear it connects into promoting the diff when I press 4hi or 4WD. But not when I press 4lo. But nothing happens, and it is still only in 2wd. Abs light also illuminates all the time, but how it's been since the summer. But 4x4 has seemed fine although abs`n have not worked.:(:(

Ok, a little better now. Need to have someone operate the 4wd controls and get under there with a 12 volt test light and see what is missing when you actuate the encoder. Look for damaged wires. You have a rig that has been changed a lot and I bet everything is not attached like factory. Get ready to get dirty.

yes I've heard that there may be electrical fault on these cars. But I wondering if it maybe could be the switch panel of 4x4 that is broken? For it is not lit at all times, but only shown I shake a little in it. This probably sounds a bit silly, but this is my first tahoe. Thanks for all the feedback!

could be but you won't know that til you do what Ron has outlined for you. That's part of the troubleshooting rather than just throwing a part at it blindly.

When you start the diagnostic process have the switch out of the dash so you can also check to see if the correct power is getting to it and then being sent out or if has an intermittent power out problem and if is always coming out is it getting down below always or intermittent and if is reacting when does get the voltage. You could have wiring problem down the line before it gets to encoder but is leaving the switch with no problem.
