Diesel vs. Gasoline

I was wondering what everyone's thoughts were when it comes to Gasoline vs. Diesel.

What do you think the pros/cons are? Which is better?

Though fuel prices are high, I would still say Diesel. Here's why: My '99 Tahoe has an 8" lift, 35" tires and 4.56 gears just to move it down the road. Towing my 5,000lbs boat is OK but not great. I am very easy on it when I drive and the truck only gets 12-13MPG.

A friend of mine has a cummins turbo diesel. His truck has 10" of lift, 38" tires and stock gears (3.93). With my boat on the back of his truck, he still gets 20-22MPG and can not feel any loss of power. I love his diesel truck, I just would hate to have his truck payment. Now the Power Stroke Diesel only gets 14MPG (towing or not) and only has half the life of a Cummins, so that one is out of the question. Thats just my little tid bit.

That's good to know...
The reason for asking this question was because I am starting my look at engines, I would like to pull out my old tired 350 but was not sure If I just wanted to rebuild it or replace it, at which time I might go to a diesel. With a MPG difference of 60% that's not too bad, especially considering that Diesel is only 20% more expensive than regular.

I just might have to look into the diesel option.

That would be my way to go, diesel swap. 12 valve Cummins for me. It can be done, just cost $$. One of these days..
