Hi, I have a 1998 Yukon and I recently noticed that the light on the electronic push button 4 wheel drive does not always stay on. When I start the vehicle sometimes the light is on indicating that I am in 2hi and then it will go out, sometimes it will come back on but not usually. Other times I will start the vehicle and the light will not come on but will sometimes come on after driving. Im wondering if this is just a failing led light in the selector or wiring issues or if it might be something more serious. The truck only has 84k on it and has been well taken care of. Any suggestions or ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

Yeah, when mine hit around that area mile wise, my 4x4 switch did the same, it eventually just completly stayed off, (except when i selected 4x4) and then sometimes it felt like when i switched back to 2x4 it was still in 4x4... anyways, i just replaced the switch - and its all good now - its just your switch..

Autozone Sells them.. i think when i bought mine (2+ yrs ago) it was around 50 or so.. may be cheaper now, may be more expensive now

thanks a bunch ill give that a try this weekend hopefully it resolves my problems. This truck is proving to be hard to please, i just replaced my sway bar linkage on saturday and on sunday my service engine soon light came ( pretty sure it was a misfire) is there any way to turn this light off without taking it to a mechanic?

I have the same trouble with my switch. sometimes on sometimes off, goes on and off..

when you say it feels like you are still in 4wd, do you say that becuase you feel that "climb" or diff stutter in front when you trun sharply on dry pavement?
cause mine does that too, but i thought it was an effect of the fat tires and turninig radius... I would hate to be in 4 all the time and think i was in 2.

I say that because of the turn.. I have 275/55/20.. pretty big tires.. and when its not n 4x4 it turns fine.. except when setting at a dead stop the power steering box moans from time to time.. but thats expected

And Soze701 - there is a way.. while your at AutoZone, have them hook it up to their OBD2 Reader - this is free - they can tell you exactly what the code means and.. ask them to reset the codes, if they don't want to.. ask them if you can use the reader to turn the codes off.. (i have had to do this before) and if its more serious than a mis-fire than you may want to check into it-take note that if your due for inspection, than once your codes are clear its not a good idea to take it in.. - you have to complete a drive cycle because once you clear the DTCs it takes awhile for the cats, o2s, and evap system to cycle back into the computer, and thats enough for a failure
