01 tahoe a few weeks after having transfer case fluid changed at 150K service 4 wheel drive light came on. 2 wh hi light is on, if I try either 4 hi or low the lights blink but then go back to the 2 wh hi light.
Had it scanned, forget the code # but refered to low voltage. Wire at encoder/actuater has full 12v at plug when removed. Seems the encoder/acuator is the problem, correct?

depends on what the code is. Its either the encoder motor or the switch. Since you got the "service 4wd soon" light, my $$$$$ is on the encoder motor. But I;d get the code first. Let me do some research....

This sounds like my issue. I tried replacing the encoder motors but it didn't fix it. My problems seemed to start after my transmission went out. Took truck to a service shop and they thought the problem was initially the transfer case. They replaced it and then realized it was the transmission. They put back the old TC and had the transmission fixed by a specialist shop. Since then the 4wd wast the same. Hard to engage and disengage, eventually stopped working about a year later. Have not needed 4wd that much recently but would like to get it fixed if I can.

BTW, I have replaced the 4wd button cluster as well, per other posts on other boards.

Did you groups fixed? What did the problem turn out to be?
