We bought a used 2006 Yukon XL Denali in late 2006. It had about 20K on it and had been in service for about 10 months when we bought it. At the time we purchased a GMPP Major Guard for it and have had no complaints about the Major Guard. We've had a few things done over the years and they've always taken care of it no questions asked. Last one was a driver's side airbag. Right now the NAV system isn't reading the disk and I need to get it in before Major Guard expires.

And that brings me to my need for advice. The Major Guard expires in 5 months or 500 miles (that's right, five hundred miles). I should have paid more attention before it got this far but apparently I can't get anything further from GMPP. My service advisor that I've worked with a long time and trust recommends getting something that covers the "major stuff" like the engine and transmission. Value Guard I think he said. But since it's over 75,000 miles OR less than 1,000 left on the Major Guard I can't get anythng from GMPP or so I've been told.

So, what is the wisdom (or lack thereof) of purchasing a 3rd party extended warranty for my Yukon? We absolutely love the vehicle. Just returned from a 3K road trip and enjoyed every minute in it. Great to drive and ride in. So we'd like to keep it for a few more years but still take road trips in it.

I've read some horror stories about 3rd party extended warranties.

It's a gamble either way, I know. But I'd appreciate hearing advice, suggestions, experiences, etc.

Thanks.
