When I bought my 2008 Yukon XL new in 2008, the parking assist function was a series of increasing beeps as well as the yellow, orange, red lights mounted on rear interior as I backed up closer to the object. I recently had a fender bender where the entire rear bumper, sensors, and apparently the sensor module were replaced. Now I have a single beep when I put the car in reverse and yellow, orange, and red lights instead of the increased beeps. According to GM, the dealership, and my owners manual, this is the way it is supposed to work, so they won't/can't do anything.
I know that the newer models (2010 and later??) have the increasing beeps, so I know it is possible. I/we don't know how/why it worked this way when I bought the vehicle (contrary to the owners manual), but I REALLY like this feature.
Can anyone help? I suspect it might be microcode/dip switch setting in the module. The dealership says that I'm at the most current microcode for the vehicle. I have escalated to GM Customer Care, but no help. I feel that this is a safety issue, and once you have had something like this, it's hard to take it away.
Any help would be appreciated.
