Hey everyone...

Thanks for all the help with the Escort 8500 Hardwire. Sadly, I have been away from my baby for about 4 months on business and all of the stuff to do the install is just sitting on my counter. When I get back to town...I will have that small project...with other larger ones in front of me...

I want to do a Carputer setup in the Hoe. Anyone got any ideas on equipment and mainly the install? It seems like a pretty straightforward setup that can just go in the arm rest considering there's power there anyways. But, even still...I know there are some geniuses out here that can make a good idea even better.

So...ANY help would be great.

More specifics...

I'm planning on getting the GM LockPick setup as well to help with the integration.

Thanks in advance!! :cool2:

First post :)

I just purchased a 2001 Tahoe and i am also looking into the carputer install. I'm also a mp3car.com member. There are a lot of info on carputers there. So go and search away.

How far have you got?

I dont have the full arm rest that goes up to the console. But i think if i could find one of those cheap that it would be the best place to put the carputer and screen. Plenty of open room right there anyways.

GM lockPick? guess i could look that one up....oh nice. To bad i dont have the nav screen to unlock.

If you have started post some pics. I will be looking around this forum alot. I just got my Tahoe sunday and i want to start ripping into it.

Well i have looked into a carputer and done quite a bit of research. I have no idea how you will use your nav screen with lockpick, as the factory touchscreen has no USB interface and i dont know of an adaptor that would allow the touchscreen to be used for anything but the factory purpose. I don't know if you were planning on another type of data input besides touch or you know a way to integrate that i don't but that may cause issues for you. As for hardware, i am a big fan of the mac mini as a computer for anything that needs computing, but particularly for the car as there are lots of DC-DC power supplies for it and it very small size allows it to fit anywhere. There are many other Intel and AMD based computer specifically designed to be car computers. You will want to use an advanced sound output with multiple channels for your amplifier. You may consider some type of internet interface for stocks, eather etc... mp3car.com has lots of great information. Check it out and post back when you have some ideas on parts you will be using.

Install AOpen MP945-x Mini Comp

hey all,

I am trying to do the same I got my hands on a pretty sweet little unit that i want to put in the truck. Store music etc. I plan on splicing it in to the aux input for the video to show up on the nav screen. I still dont know how i am going to splice into the bose system yet. I still dont know how to get surround through the sound system yet. I could splice into the Audio jacks but i dont know if it will be stereo or Mono? I would love to use the existing nav touch screen interface but dont know how to get it to output to the computer without a usb. Any one find any further information?

I looked into doing this with a 2005 acura TL that I have with factory Nav. Someone has been able to tap into the factory NAV screen and splice wires into a USB controller that converts touch coordinates on the screen into mouse control on a PC. Then you can tap into the video input for the screen with a toggle switch to switch between the nav system and the PC. So, it can be done with other factory nav systems. The question is can it be done with a GM factory nav system. It took a few electrical\computer engineers quite a bit of time to figuar out what wires to tap on the acura system in order to make it work. It sure looks AWESOME once their system was completed.
