Hello Everyone,
Getting ready to conduct a much overdue service on my transmission. Rather than pay 300+ dollars, I would like to do it at home myself. The truck has 170,000 on it and I don't think that it has ever had the transmission oil/filter changed. Since the tranny has been horribly neglected what do you all recommend that I do to get her back on track? What oil do you guys recommend and also, would it be a problem if I do not completely flush the tranny?
*No performance issues yet. No slippage or hard shifting.
**The oil definitely smells burned and there is no evidence that it was ever red/pink.
This is what I have planned to do:
1. Drop the pan and drain the fluid.
2. Replace the filter and gasket.
3. Top off with what ever owner's manual recommended oil.
4. From now on, ensure that I conduct all recommended maintenance on time.
Thank you all for the help or ass chewings for neglecting my truck.
