Greetings, I am new the forum but not new to working on my truck. I purchased my 2007 Chevy Tahoe LT (Bermuda Blue) from a somewhat reputable Chevy Dealership in Georgia. I had a few issues with the truck at first and then she calmed down on me (threw a dirty intake manifold code). The truck had 116,000 miles on it and looked ok. The passenger door was repainted, needs to be wetsanded and buffed. It has some issues but overall is a great truck for 2007.

Recently I had a very weird thing happen to me. I replaced my front brakes, pretty easy work and felt pretty good when I got done. Took the family to Savannah (I am in the Army stationed at Fort Stewart, Georgia) and the truck ran well. Did an oil change at the same time.

Two days ago while driving to Lowes my applied my brakes and the truck came to a stop very quickly, never felt it do that before. The right rear tire locked up, I was stuck on the highway (4 lane) and all of a sudden a tow truck pulled up and got me off the road and luckily they were able to get me all the way home. It was raining and storming pretty bad so I had no choice but to wait till I got home to see what was going on.

When the rain subsided I looked at the back tire which had gone flat and found that the brake caliper had been ripped off along with the caliper and brake line. I am not sure if my caliper mounting bracket attached to the rear differential is bent so I need to take it off, if it is I am clueless where to get one to replace that one. I know the delearship might be my only option.

My question is has anyone ever had this happen to them? My best guess is the top bold holding the bracket on the mount backed out, fell off and caused my issue. The caliper and what was left of the bracket started grinding on my wheel and that is why it went flat, the inside of the rim has a hole in it and not sure it can be fixed or repaired. I am new to the forum so I dont know how to attach pictures.

Something similar just happened to me. The brake pad fell out as I backed out of the driveway. Heard a noise, stopped immediately, found brake fluid leaking out and the pad laying on the street. Rear right. Replacing the rear pads & calipers today. Oh ... yes, I said the brake pad fell out onto the street. Kid you not.

I am pretty sure my top bolt holding the caliper mount to the anchor fell out and with all the rain we had is when my caliper broke loose, and then did its thing. I am picking up my two bolts from the dealership today, and then I have to get some pads. I tested the parking brake and it actually worked, I just need to apply some grease into the mechanical unit so it doesnt rust up on me. I also have to tap an existing bolt hold in my rear differential because when I took out the last bolt it stripped. So I could just rely on the other two bolts but I dont like to take care of my stuff that way so I am going to tap a new bolt hole, use a new bolt with some thread lock and torque it down. Then its all about topping off the fluids and bleeding the system.

Just make sure you torque your nuts!
