My wife's 2007 Chevy Tahoe has 107k miles on it and it just started to "long crank". It has the 5.3 liter motor if it makes any difference. I have looked around a bit trying to find a solution to the problem, but I have had no luck. What is happening is when you go to initially start the car it will crank for maybe 5-8 seconds and finally will start. I have noticed if it cranks for a bit and I turn the key off, then right back to the start position it will start quickly. I know eventually this is going to wear on the starter. I am assuming this is a fueling issue and I have read that it may be the regulator. But, without being able to find the fuel regulator under the hood makes me think it might be located somewhere else. Can anyone else help me with this issue? It would be greatly appreciated.

It cranks at the right speed, correct? No reason to suspect the battery or anything?

Fuel check valve leak maybe.

That is to say you need to have the fuel system tested to see if it hold pressure after the vehicle is turned off.

What you are actually doing is priming the fuel system by cranking and turning it off and back on.

I am not sure that it is with the regulator or pump itself. Sometimes it is all one unit, check valve, regulator, and fuel pump as one unit. Jeeps are like that. I could be with the fuel pump which is in the tank not under the hood.

You could try priming the fuel pump a few times by turning the key off and on a few times. If it doesn't work after just one turn, then there's a good chance there's an issue with the fuel pump.
