2007 Noise in rear end

started off making a noise when I let off the gas at 30 - 50 mph. sounds like a dump truck tire noise, kinda of a growling noise, but I realized it wasn't tire noise. Don't hear it on acceleration and until recently I wasn't hearing it at highway speeds. Now it's getting more prevalent. Any ideas? I really hate taking it to a dealer ($$$).

I had a similar issue. I believe it was the U joint. Was a several hundred dollar fix. This needs to get fixed though sooner rather than later.

Took it to a power train specialist shop and they pulled the cover and found bearing filings on the magnet. They suspect the carrier bearings, so a complete overhaul including the axle bearings ($1100). 103k miles.
