I'm new to the forum and am hoping someone can help.

This past weekend, I noticed several areas of paint bubbling from rust on the rear bumper of my 2005 Tahoe. The largest area is about 2 inches long by 1 inch high.

The truck has 38,950 miles on it, and the 3 year warranty went out the beginning of this month. My wife took it to the Chevy dealer and was basically told that unless it was rusted through, there isn't anything they could do. Claim they have talked to Chevrolet in the past on similar issues, and Chevy wasn't willing to do anything. Disappointing, because we have a fair amount of service work done there and purchased a new vehicle there about a year ago.

She has sent an email to Customer service from the main website, but hasn't heard back yet.

This just doesn't seem right. The rest of the vehicle is in great condition, and it is clear that the problem was there before the warranty time expired.

Anyone have any helpful ideas? For what it's worth, I live in the Milwaukee, WI area.

Thanks.

May see if you can speed up the corrosion process. I guess it will take some rusted holes in the bumper for them to do something about it.

Here is some info on the 2008 warranty, I think the 2005 models have the same warranty.

Rust-through corrosion protection:

* 6-years/100,000-miles (whichever comes first).

CORROSION PROTECTION

* Chevrolet vehicles are designed and built to resist corrosion.
* All body and sheet metal components are warranted against rust-through corrosion for 6-years/100,000-miles (whichever comes first).
* Application of additional rust-inhibiting materials is not required under the corrosion coverage and none is recommended. See your Chevrolet dealer for terms of this limited warranty.

This type of minor surface corrosion is covered under the GM new car 3 year OR 36,000 miles warranty.
Since you waited beyond this point (by nearly 3k miles) it is difficult to have anything done.
If it where a mechanical failure (like a transmission) then the dealer can ask GM for a goodwill warranty claim approval but since it is a cosmetic issue it is very doubtful that this claim would be approved but you can still ask them to give it a try.

If this doesn't work then you will have to either eat the weenie and pay for the repair or file a suit.

Does the state that you reside in use salt on the roads?
