Hello everyone. Great forum!
I would like to ask a question in my first post here. Hope you don't mind :D
Sometime ago I suddenly lost my 3 and overdrive gears. 1,2 and reverse work fine. 4th works from time to time. When shifting to the gears that do not work, the engine just revs and the gear slips. Because Chevys are relatively rare in Europe, I have decided to ask people that really know these cars. So, what do you think? What would you recommend?
Thank you very much in advance for your help!!!

Sounds like 3/4 clutch pack is gone, which means all you can do is rebuild.

If you decide to have the trans rebuilt rather than replacing it, you can opt for more heavy duty clutches and upgrade the servo. This will improve shift quality and provide less slippage, which means less wear on the clutches and less internal heat. And like low94 stated above, add more clutches. You can have a high performance/heavy duty clutch pack installed that will have more clutches than stock. Stock 700r4/4l60e/4l65e trans usually have about 6 clutch plates. A hd/hp kit will add in at least a couple more plates for better holding power and less slippage.

Thank you very much!!!
If you could also tell me where I can get these heavy duty cluch packs and the improved servo, it will be great! I have managed to find a rebuild kit in Ebay, but I suppose it has the stock cluch discs - http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/e...STRK:MEWA:IT&viewitem=&item=180230148445&rd=1
You might find it strange that I ask such questions, but as I told you, American cars are not very popular in Europe. In fact I think that my Tahoe is either the only one or the one of very few in our country.

Try checking on-line at sources like TCI and B&M. Or you can try google and type in something like 4l60e heavy duty clutch pack, servo, etc. I wouldn't get anything off ebay for rebuilding your trans. Cheap stuff will be made of cheaper material and looser tolerances that will wear a lot quicker and you'll be back in the same boat.

Soooo, tranny was removed and opened. As you suggested the discs were toasted and bent. No other damages! Now I am waiting for a rebuild kit + Corvette servo.
