I have a 2001 Tahoe that has a bad belt squeal. Started when I put a new alternator in, went from the OEM 130 to a 160 amp. I replaced the belt at the time of the alternator replacement. Its been about a month of dealing with this issue and have replaced the tensioner and idler pulleys, taken off the steering pump pulley and reinstalling thinking alignment issue(did not replace). I can spray the belt with water and the noise disappears, also after I reinstalled the pulley the noise was less but still there. I notice there is wear on the sides of the belt which yells out alignment issue. Since its been a month I'm going to try replacing the belt first then the power steering pulley. Any ideas of what may be the problem before I shell out more money and time with this beast. I'm hoping the alternator upgrade is not the issue.

Check the tensioner and idler pulleys, they are plastic and the bearing will get hot and melt its way out of the plastic.
