Hi,

I'm sorry if this has been asked before (I did do a search)...

I'm thinking of getting a 2000 Tahoe Z71 4X4. The problem is that the engine is shot (bad knock) I was told it sounds like a rod knock.

My question is... Can I replace the 5.7 engine in there now with a 5.3? What is involved?

Now for the reason... I can find a lot of 5.3's available locally but the 5.7's are had to come by and cost almost double, plus, I just want this as a spare car.

You'll need all the sensors, the harness, and pcm to do the swap. Starting in '00, some models came with etc (electronic throttle control), so you'll have to find one that has a manual throttle body cable.

5.3's are cheaper than 5.7's where live? o_O Wierd. 5.3's are newer, have more expensive hardware in them, and are more powerful.

But yeah, it would be a pretty involved procedure like JK said.

While the engine itself may be cheaper, getting it to run properly will cause you alot of time and MONEY!!! its not really worth it for what you save. You will most likely spend less on a 5.7 that just bolts up. Than getting a 5.3 to work.
