Hey everyone, I was wondering if anyone could give me some insight on a problem I have been having with my 2000 Tahoe...5.3 liter v8...basically the idle is considerably lower than it should be(between 350-400rpm) and it dies while in low idle or if I am at a stop light or in stop and go traffic and have the ac or heater on it will die, and on the advice of a local mechanic I have changed the throttle position sensor, sparkplugs, oil and serpintine belt and am still seeing these issues. I have had a diagnostic ran on the truck and it isnt producing any codes and I am not seeing the check engine light coming on....I dont know where to go from here and am at my wits end Any suggestions would be helpful...Thanks for reading!

I know, it's kinda basic and simple, and you'd assume your mechanic looked at it; is the Throttle body really dirty? if it is that may be part of the problem. Check it, it may a quick and easy fix.

Here's a link and quote that explains it better.

While throttle-body cleaning is good preventative maintenance, it should also help engine drivability. In fact, if you've noticed a rough idle, stumbling initial acceleration or even stalling - all when the engine is fully warmed up - a dirty throttle body could be the culprit. Once you look inside a throttle body, you will probably be surprised at the dirt, gum and varnish that have accumulated there over time.

Have you checked your fuel pressure? You could have leaky injectors, a bad fuel pressure regulator or your fuel pump may be on it's way out.

Also try running some Seafoam through it first to see if it clears it up.

Try cleaning the throttle body and also the IAC motor, its a small valve on the throttle body that controls your idle. They get gummed up and cause a low idle. Its mounted on the side of the throttle body w/ 2 small torx bolts. Not the tps, that mounts inline w/ the throttle shaft. Its the other one, take it out and clean the end and the hole it came out of w/ carb cleaner and a old toothbrush or rag. Bolt it all back up and try that.

I should have updated this earlier, but I took the throttle body off and cleaned everything really well, cleaned the maf and then got as much carbon out of the intake as I could and she is running like a champ now :kar: thanks for checking this
