I'm wondering if anyone knows how to fix an extremely loose steering problem? I have replaced the idler and pitmon arms and all ball joints are good, but the steering has a ton of play. Should I look at replacing the gear box or the steering column itself; or is there another fix? Thanks again..

Have someone turn the steering wheel slightly back and forth while you look at all the components. Start at the steering shaft and work your way down, looking for any play. Since you've replaced the pitman and idler arm, I'd check for play from the gearbox.

Steering slip

Hello everyone: Just want to let you know that replacing the steering sensor located on the steering column inside the cab just above the break pedal solved my problem almost one year ago. Contrary to popular belief...it is not the same as an evo sensor which is related to the power steering pump. The steering sensor is round and washer shaped.
The sensor is replaced by disconnecting the steering column inside the cab to slide the old sensor off and slide the new one on the steering column. The lower part of the steering column has enough "give" to push it a little forward through the firewall to allow some space for installing the sensor. There is also a simple "click" wire connection. I suggest taking it to a mechanic unless you are willing to try it yourself. Word of caution....be sure to disconnect the battery before attempting the repair. As this could lead to air bag problems. Good Luck!!!! You should notice a big difference!!!!!

yea these symptoms are NOT related to the evo sensor. they ARE related to the steering speed sensor on the steering column under the dash. it's is easily replaced with common hand tools (one bolt). part costs about $30 from ebay or $90 from dealer
