I have a 99 Tahoe. 5-6 yrs ago, replaced OEM pump/sending unit with an Airtex. I guess I got my moneys worth out of it, but, it recently died. I bought a complete Delco pump/sending unit assy. Installation was normal, no issues dropping the tank and replacing pump. assy. Well, in three days, I've had the tank down twice working on the third time. Test drove after first install, made it about five miles, truck died. No coughing, sputtering, missing, just died. Got it home, listened for pump whine, pump was running. Checked for fuel pressure, none. Dropped tank, removed pump assy., and the hose from the fuel pump(inside the housing) had come off the fitting on top of the fuel pump. So, it was basically just pumping inside the tank, never making it to the pressure line. I looked at the old Airtex unit, it had squeeze clamps on the hose in that assy. So, I put hose clamps on the hose inside the Delco assy. Reinstall, drive about 10 miles, truck dies. Same symptoms as when it died the first time. Truck is back at the house, fuel pump is pumping like crazy, but no fuel in the pressure line. I'm sure the hose come off again. What's up with that? Why so much pressure build up? Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.
