I own a small garage, so this is not too big of a deal for me. I recently picked up a 1996 4 Wheel Drive Tahoe for little to nothing, basically the owner of said Tahoe did not want to fix the "knock" in the bottom end. I have decided that I want to rebuild the engine myself. I usually opt out for Jasper Engines and Transmissions for customers vehicle. It is just the better option for a quick turn around with a great warranty. With that said, my son will turn 15 in August, so I figure I can rebuild this engine and have a year to knock around in it before he takes hold of the keys.
Today I pulled the engine out and have it tore down to the rotating assembly. I would not be opposed to upgrading to a little bigger cam if it will not require anything crazy to do with the computer. So that is my question, I know these OBD2 vehicles can be a little sketchy when it comes to upgrades. In our state, North Carolina, anything 1996 and newer has to have an emission inspection. The emission inspection is basically a pass if the Check Engine Light is not on. So if I upgrade to a larger lift cam, will that screw with the computer? My garage does not deal with any computer upgrades, so before I stick a larger camshaft in this engine, I would like to know if I will need to do anything with the computer.
Thanks in advance
Hank
