First, I'm NOT an idiot... however, this was one IDIOT move.

I won't bore you with the reason I was in 4Low at 65 mph, for about 30 miles... but I was. I did not notice until I got home and went to back into a parking space, and it was evident something was... not right. Put her back into 2W... everything seemed okay.

I have not noticed any issues, nothing out of the ordinary since I pulled this bone-headed move.

Please tell me there's an electronic overide for idiots... or do I need to take her in to the dealer... This will obviously show up in the computer...

2007 Tahoe LTZ with about 8K miles.. ugh.

I didn't even know you could do 65 in 4 low I would think that would trash the transfer case. I would have it looked at as I don't see how you could not have damaged it.

ok, were you ever in nutural for more than 10 seconds?

it will not go in to 4wheel low enless you shift in to nutural first, but mine defaults to 4wd high. im not sure on the 07's. if it was wet out your fine no matter what. if it was dry. you may have gear binding issues.

I think that is what happened as in 4 low you are restricted to 25 MPH so really there is no wey you could do 65 in 4 low, even if you som how accomplished this you're engine RPS would be through the roof and you would surly notice that.

Its happened to me too, twice, not in my personal tahoe, I was messing around in a mud puddle at work and forgot to disengage the 4x4 I did notice that engine had some hestiation and higher RPM. I only drove for about 4 miles before I caught it. Vehicle is fine. No problems

That is one of the few thing I don't like about the tahoe you can't really see when you are in 4wd. I like the old lever on your right hand side.

I don't think you have anyhting to worry about your tahoe should be fine. I manage a fleet and this type of mistake is very common and we have never had any problems. the only time you should encounter any problems is if you engage the 4wd while going at a high rate of speed (over 25mph). You own a well built american vehicle with a 100K mile warranty.

BTW Welcome aboard don't be a one post wonder.

Yeah, could not reach 65 in 4Low without having insanely high rpms...in fact, I doubt you could even reach 65 at all...if you were in 4Hi and just running in a pretty much straight line, I don't think you would have damaged anything...but any turning on dry pavement would surely bind it up pretty good, putting stress/heat on components...I'd check the fluid and make sure it's still nice and pink...if it's darker (burnt), change it out right away...

My knee bumped the 4x4 switch (it has happened several times) whne I got in. I noticed right away that something was wrong but couldn't figure out what it was.

I could not get up to speed and it revved like crazy. No way could you go 65 in 4 lo and not notice. Had to be in 4 hi.

By the way dealer said I would be okay. I drove about 5 miles. NOT at 65 though.

Okay... many thanks for the replies. When I twisted the 4x knob, maybe it didn't have time to engage before I was moving... and then when I stopped to back up it engaged.

I will check fluids and keep an eye out.

Thanks again!
