07 Tahoe.. A/C vent??

Ok, I have looked thru the manual and still don't understand. I have the auto climate control system.

Sometimes I just want to use the "vent" and pull outside air in. Can someone explain how to do that and can I use the fan control when I do it?

Seems like when I try to bump the fan the A/C kicks in.

It's operating normally as it should. If the a/c wouldn't kick on, the interior windows would fog up, then you can't see anything while you are driving.

The big snowflake button is the A/C as long as that and the auto button are not lit up, it will just be venting from the outside.
