Okay,

Think I've seen a post somewhere before about these, but has anyone actually taken the leap and installed them on their '07 Tahoe/Burb??? They look like they would make our ride look so wicked!!! :cool2:

See this link.... You will also get schooled on halo fog light install on an Avalanche, but basically the same front end.

http://www.chevyavalanchefanclub.com/cafcna/index.php/topic,86990.0/all.html

AWESOME PICS, SNOMON!!! Truly impressed w/ the look. Had to register to the the forum just to see the pics, though...:rolleyes2: But I do love those Avalanches...just not a pickup truck kinda guy... Not too practical for the fam, either... Anyway...

According to the StylinTrucks site, you won't need to go through all the tinkering those guys had to... The more plug & play, the better, I say... :smilielol: ... :leaving:

Personally I would not get these headlights above. I went with this setup below to keep the OEM look that I am about ready to put on hopefully this weekend. I have the HID's ready to sub out the H11 bulbs, a set of PIAA GTX's to sub out the hi beam 9005 and a pair of chrome bulbs to sub out the amber turn signal bulb. This pic below is from their Ebay ad. I will post pics after I replace my lamps!

Thanks for the hijack, personally I like the halos in the avalanche pics...gives that Escalade look to me. I think I would go with the chrome backing version myself if I were to get em. Someone needs to buy an ebay pair or elsewhere and show us how its dun!

Snomon,

I would love to see what your setup looks like when done. I got HID's and was waiting for someone to do the halo's too.

HIDs PLEASE!!!

I know one thing's for sure...I need to know how to get HIDs!!! An upscale SUV like the Tahoe should have that option available and GM doesn't offer it...shame, shame... :nono:

To you "lighting" gurus out there:

Is it a simple "bulb" swap out or do you have to replace the whole light housing w/ a "conversion" kit??? What part # or HID model is the right one for the Tahoe? Also, the word is out there that some of the HID conversions actually burn out your wiring or don't last that long... Does anyone have in-depth knowledge on this? School me, please!!! :ack:

Defintely NOT a bulb-swap. You don't need a special housing, though you'd get the most out of your HIDs by having a projector setup. I'm waiting for someone to come out with one for Denali.

Not that I have any particularly in-depth knowledge or anything, BUT, from my research and experience:

1) Your Tahoe is different than a Denali w/r/t lighting. Your Hoe uses separate hi and lo beam bulbs. If you wanna do HIDs for both, you will need TWO kits: H11 for lo, and 9005 for hi.

2) Newer high quality kits come with special wiring harnesses with a dedicated fused +12V battery lead with socket connections to your H11 / 9005 factory connectors to trip their included relays (part of the harness), which drives the ballasts (one per side) and then fires the hi-current ignitor (one per side), which starts the xenon plasma arc in the bulb, all of which must be grounded on each side to a good chassis ground. The factory wiring just trips the relay which draws power over the heavy-duty harness wiring (not the factory wiring) to power the whole shebang.

In a full-HID setup on a Tahoe/Suburban, you'd need two HID kits with a total of: two harnesses, four ballasts, four ignitors, and four bulbs. Aside from additional hardware cost, the install could be tricky, mainly because you need to find places in the engine compartment mount everything securely.

Yukon Denali actually has a somewhat less-complicated setup (believe-it-or-not) in that it uses one H13 bulb on each side for hi, lo, and DRL beams. The only complication is that in order to maintain that functionality, we have to get bi-xenon kits, that support hi & lo beam in one bulb. Ironically, on that setup, the hi and lo (and DRL) aren't ANY different in terms of brightness; the bulb has a solenoid that retracts the filament tube assembly thereby changing the aim of the bulb, putting it into a "hi" position. I decided to disable my DRL circuits to preserve the life of my bulbs by pulling fuses 30 and 32. Not sure what if anything you'd want to do on the DRLs on your Hoe.

Good luck! I'm sure someone will chime in with some more info on the Hoe/Burb setup since I'm not familiar with it...

HofB99... it is not hard to install the HIDs! I am about to order some from PilotHID.com they are reasonably cheap and good quality. I used to have a 2003 maxima SE and i replaced the factory HID - meaning only bulb replacement because it came stock with HID, then i replaced the fogs with HID and did it myself. Like mentioned you need to find a good place to secure the balasts and other than that it should be plug in play. If you do it yourself also make sure NOT to touch the bulb due to the grease and sweat on your hands can cause the bulb to not work properly.

Another thing to remember is the k... the higher the k the less light output. if your Maxima has the HID kit it would be about 4300k. Personally i like the 6000k cause its white with a blue tint.

Outstanding advice, Getwired and uofmz71!!! Thanks so much!

In my limited research, there are so many different variations of products out there to choose from, but not one stands out as the pick of the pile. Such as popular products like the Volant Intake or Eibach springs, etc...etc... I guess what I would really like to know now is WHICH ONE(S) IS/ARE THE BEST???!!! :confused2:

If anyone else would like to chime in, I won't hate on ya!!!

I am with you Snomon, I really like the stock look with the Halos rather than the ones on the Avalanche and Ebay! :Chevy:

Snomon, Did you get 'em? Did you get 'em?!!! :excited: Pics?!!!

I have good news and I have bad news. The good news I did put them on.
The bad news is that they are not 100% up and running.

Here's my story. I bought the rings I have shown above from AAC Concepts
via their Ebay site. After getting them and wasting 2 hours attempting to
bake a set of spare headlamps (also procured from Ebay), I decided it was
too much work for me so I shipped them off to AAC in New Orleans to do the
installation.

After waiting about 4 weeks (they sat on the lights for a few weeks and
them claimed that UPS lost my package, yet there was no pick up data on
the tracking number) and numerous phone calls to their office saying where
the hell are my lights, they magically showed up on the tracking log over a
week later.

When I received them, here is what I found: They mangled one of the spare
Tahoe headlamps I sent to them, by breaking a mounting tab, left glue all
over the lens upon return and to add insult to injury, 1 ring was dimmer than
all the rest and another ring plain just doesn't work in the other lamp. They
are claiming UPS damaged all of this... yet the broken portion of the tab is
not in the box. They want me to pay for shipping both ways to get them to
fix the bad rings, but nothing about the broken tab much less about the
leaving the glue slopped all over the lens. I'm done with them.

Sooooo.....

Let's start here. Below is a pic of before and after. I replaced the blinker
light with these chrome bulbs that are turn amber:

AmberTurnCompare-1.jpg

To my surprise they blacked out the amber side reflector, yet the marker light
still comes on behind it:

34.jpg

So you don't have to rush outside to see stock amber reflector looks like,
here it is below:

7.jpg

Ok, here is a pic of one side with the dim outer ring. I do like how bright the
inner ring is:

2.jpg

Here is a comparison to stock. Note I installed 6000k HID at the same time:

14.jpg

Here's the sad part. The other side has one ring that won't light up and the
outer ring is at full brightness.. AARRGHH. So now I have all rings
disconnected from power.

But I am determined to get some halos after seeing their potential.

I found this site and spoke to the owner about my sob story. He has better
quality rings, is located in the Bay Area (closer to me) and know all about
what AAC sells and their "service". His website is http://www.umnitza.com
Here is a sample of their rings on an avalanche at SEMA. I am planning
on all white:

avalanche2_sized.jpg

IMG_7769.jpg

Umnitza's rings are much much thicker than AAC's, I know they will be much
brighter.

The moral of the story here is to STAY AWAY from AAC. I have much greater
expectations of what I am going to get back from Umnitza.

I should get my lamps back from them before Thanksgiving hopefully, will post
updated pics! So stay tuned!!!!

Whoa dude - that sucks about them screwing with you and/or playing dumb. The Umnitza stuff looks AWESOME. Let us know how this works out, and I'm sure you'll post pics! And THANKS for the write up and warning about AAC -- I'm sure that'll help us all gravitate towards vendors who are interested in their own long-term success, and not making a quick buck at someone's expense.

 To Umnitza they are tried and true all over my m3forum, and widely used in a lot of other applications. Great customer service and really nice guys that work there. They sell a lot more than just halos and their site is worth checking out. Highly recommend! I have an 03 BMW M3 and have umnitza halos on it and they look great. Many packages to choose from and if you ever have a problem they will fix it!
