My '04 Tahoe has developed a clunking sensation when the wheel is turned. It may have always been there but I just now noticed it, I don't know. Everything seems to work fine. Any ideas on what may be causing the sensation? IT maybe the Intermediate Steering Shaft. Does anyone know if this is a safety concern or merely an annoyance.

It is definitely the intermediate shaft. I had the same issue w/my 04 Hoe. There is a TSB on the very issue. Basically the shaft needs to be pulled, cleaned and re-greased with the new and improved GM grease. My dealer fixed me up even though veh was out of warranty. Even if you have to pay it's about an hour labor and $2 for the grease. It's been about a year now that it was fixed and no problems!

My 02 had a clunking steering wheel. They replaced the shaft under recall. Take it in! I would think it would become a safety issue left as is.

Just had my '03 Yukon at the GM store. GM is well aware of the problem. The current fix apparently is to replace the intermediate shaft (Part No 19153614) and not just grease it. They charged me .6 labour plus the part. I'll be sending my invoice to GM and see if I can get them to pay the bill (I know, I know - good luck....)
