I recently got a 03 Tahoe with 3rd row seats. By the time I get all six of us into it, there is virtually no storage space left. I mean none. I’d hoped to take it on our family trips. It’s so comfortable to drive and the kids love it, but we have no place to put any luggage. I’ve never used the racks on top of a vehicle and wonder how it works and if it provides much extra storage space. I appreciate and look forward to any tips or pics of how you get around this problem. Thanks & happy New Year! :smiley-face-popcorn

With third row in you are right not very much room left. A cargo box on the roof rack or small trailer in tow are the only options other than trading in for a Suburban or Yukon XL

Thats exactly right!tahoe is for a small family with occasional use of third row, while suburban is fit for a bigger family!

For my Tahoe I bought a $60 receiver hitch rack that holds 500 lbs. and is easier to load/unload than a roof rack. I think I got it on sale at Harbor Freight tools. If I ever have to get another one, I'd probably get an aluminum one.

I had one of these on my old Grand Cherokee. On the plus side they hold more than you think and they're weather proof. Negatives - you have to climb to load/unload and your gas millage will suffer. When driving the Jeep I could feel the extra wind resistance. I'm guessing the effect might be less on the Tahoe. It's longer roof should help the aerodynamics.

I've seen a small type storage trailer in tow which appeared to just have luggage etc. inside, couldn't be very heavy and definately easy to load/unload. JMHO, good luck.

i have an 03 tahow and have used a carrier on the rear. much easer to laod than a roof rack. Only issue is you cannot opent the rear hatch with a rear rack.
