02 chevy tahoe loud noise in reverse

I have an 02 chevy tahoe with 209,000 miles on it, and about a year back it started making a ticking/ knocking noise around the back of the engine block transmission it makes the sound in drive sometime and is really loud in reverse. Just looking for some help Thanks

Did you ever find out what the noise was? My sisters is doing the same thing and I cant figure it out.

It was the output shafshaft on the transmission. About 3/4 of the splines were gone. Trans tech said it's only the 2nd time he has ever seen it. New trans and converter and it's quiet as can be now.
