check engine

As the title suggests, the OBDII port on my 2000 LS is damaged and I cannot plug in a reader. Is there a way to read the codes either through the digital ODO or otherwise? Yes the CEL is on, and it is having trouble shifting from 1st to 2nd gear. Thanks for the help.
