I used a voltage tester I purchased from Autozone for $3.50 to test the plug to the brake light to see it has power which means brake light is junk. Ordered a fancy one from ID Carid for $70

Mine does the same. Also the drivers side. Once last week the back stayed on but bottom never came on

I found this thread that suggest a common problem is moisture gets into the LED strip and shorts it out. The LED's cannot be replaced and a whole assembly is required. http://www.tahoeforum.com/showthread.php?t=525282&highlight=3rd+brake+light
