Bowhunter22, Your advice all makes senses to me. What doesn't make sense is the unique Tahoe restriction against any use of chains. Surely I'm not the first guy to wrestle with that one. Comments/other thoughts anyone?

Thank you for your responses. I thought I heard Chevy recommended against using chains at all. Wonder why? But, an emergency is an emergency and I'll do what I must to keep from being stranded in snowy/icy conditions.
