    1999Tahoe 5.7 soft pedal brakes - solved

My goof Lester. That would be a check valve the hose connects to. I have good high brakes and a peppy engine - first in ten years and that is all I know. I do not know why but Ill take it. ...dw

    1999Tahoe 5.7 soft pedal brakes - solved

Yes Mark you are correct all the way. I can see now that would be a check valve the hose connects to. Sorry about that, I made it clear I'm no mechanic so now I have proved it! :)) ...dw

    1999Tahoe 5.7 soft pedal brakes - solved

Hi Lester, no check valve. It is where the vac hose slips directly onto the nipple on the side of the booster. That nipple has a 'raised ring' (?) with the spring clamp behind it as a retainer. I was one happy lad when I cranked up and found I have a new '99!! Take care my Friend. ...dw

    1999Tahoe 5.7 soft pedal brakes - solved

Problem with that Lester is that I hadn't been working on it. Maybe I should better clarify the full story: Booster, Master cylinder, Linings, the whole kabash has been done over and over thru the years!! After 6 days in the shop and writing a $446 check the Owner told me that low, soft...

    1999Tahoe 5.7 soft pedal brakes - solved

You betcha. I don't know much either but it worked for me! Go to your Brake Booster and see the vacuum hose coming to it from the engine. Mine had a skimpy little spring clamp there that allowed me to spin the vac hose on the booster connection. I removed that and put on a regular hose clamp...

    1999Tahoe 5.7 soft pedal brakes - solved

Only thing I can figure is that I had a constant vac leak that affected the engine performance. To me that makes sense while on the brake, but the increased power indicates I had a constant vac. prob. I am by no means a mechanic so I just had to try something and it worked. After ten years it...

    1999Tahoe 5.7 soft pedal brakes - solved

(I posted this recently as a reply to shawnkfl then realized it should be a thread). My experience on the soft pedal: Have had my 99 Tahoe for 10 years and have spent well over $2,000 to several shops and shade-trees trying to solve the low, soft pedal. Booster and master cylinder replaced...

    still fighting my brakes

My experience on the soft pedal: Have had my 99 Tahoe for 10 years and have spent well over $2,000 to several shops and shade-trees trying to solve the low, soft pedal. Booster and master cylinder replaced twice and all the other things mentioned here. One shop told me that all these tahoes have...

1999 Tahoe 5.7 L warm air from AC

To cap off this experience: Now, I find it was more simple than i imagined. For my own satisfaction I searched 'Calibrate Actuators' and there is all I ever needed to know - just didn't know what words to Search!! Now I know that all the shops I've been to knew or should have known how to...

1999 Tahoe 5.7 L warm air from AC

And the verdict is in!! The 5 minute 'Fuse Out' And the 12 minute 'Recalibrate' gave me back a Fully Cold A/C which I haven't had in at least a coupla years!! I tried to register on GM Forum to give proper thanks and praise to 'piratelowrider' but that was more of a chore than working on my...

1999 Tahoe 5.7 L warm air from AC

Update: The Actuator is not new and has a different number than on my shop bill so it was not replaced. Searching shows it to be the 'main' one that I wanted replaced - the Heat/Blend. It is located behind the ashtray and is partly visible from the glovebox - removed. I stumbled upon a...

1999 Tahoe 5.7 L warm air from AC

BY golly I didn't look that hard! I will give it a good full inspection and see if I can figure it out or maybe even get a visual on the door to see if it is OK! Sure do appreciate your hanging in with me. Gonna try and make it pay off! thnx Lester.

1999 Tahoe 5.7 L warm air from AC

UH-OH! My first move was to take out the glove box and check behind there. I could see just a bit of an Actuator to the left which put it over the HVAC Case and past some framework making it totally unreachable from the glove box. I will look in there again-hope I just missed it! Will be a...

1999 Tahoe 5.7 L warm air from AC

Now this is really something! I just tried yet another search for 'Dash Removal' and it popped up on EHow! http://www.ehow.com/how_7801718_install-dash-1999-chevy-tahoe.html Definitely out of my league so I'll stop there. I didn't even have A/C in my first few cars, even the 1928 Model A ;)...

1999 Tahoe 5.7 L warm air from AC

Well, here is my final stance, I guess. Was not able to get the HVAC case out but did get some of the screws replaced after trying. I have faith in my shop owner's honesty but did the mechanic clean the doors and did they actually replace the 'blend door' actuator? I don't know! Of course...

Appreciate your input Lester! I'm done with it! More than I can handle. I will post back if I find someone who wants to work on it. can't go back to the shop since They got $460 for nothing, it appears. Thank You very much! ...dw

1999 Tahoe 5.7 L warm air from AC

OK thanks. I think I have to surrender and just call it my 'Winter' car. Spent the day trying to get the HVAC case screws out to check the actuator in there but looks like I'm just not quiet young as I used to be. :)) ...dw

1999 Tahoe 5.7 L warm air from AC

Was getting warmish air from (intermittently) from ac. Shop replaced Temp-Blend and Mode Door Actuators. Problem is still there and the air is a bit warmer than before! I don't know if they installed the parts correctly as I find hints on how the actuators must be installed/calibrated. I...
