I just replaced with a crate motor; not sure if it has been ran to seat everything guy at auto zone said to run it at 1500 rpm for 20 min. But, ive seen some alternate suggestions on the subject...
Have you checked the rear axle bearings? jack up the rear (both wheels) put it in neutral and spin the wheels forward and back ( get them spinning pretty good) and listen for a click or noisey hum. These usually show under a load (accel. or decel.). Could also slide it into neutral while...

For future reference to anyone else who dare's try. These pitman arms can be very stuborn. If you do one make sure you use a pitman arm pull tool, it is pretty much necessary to loosen the steering gearbox from the frame (4 bolts through drivers side frame) becareful...
if you have condensation that bad under the hood what do you think is going on in the distributer cap? use some compressed air blow out the distributer cap and rotor, then give it another crank.
