Wildly different EPA gas mileage figures. 5.7L Tahoe.

    I have a 4x4, 4 door, 5.7l 1999 tahoe. I get between 10-15 mpg. On the highway, when I draft behind a semi, and go 55mph, I've gotten 20mpg. Hardwarz

    Need advice

depends on where you live. Around here in NE Ohio, 4 door Tahoe 4x4, late 90's (98/99) are around $3500.00 - $4,000.00 on average. People/Dealers trying to sell for higher aren't moving them. Hardwarz

    Decisions on a box?????

Yes, 100% correct. Ported = hit harder & sound muddier (is that a word?!) Sealed = tight bass, reduced efficiency again, sealed or not, avoid parallel sides for a "good" design. Parallel sides are easier to build and mass produce. Hardwarz

    Decisions on a box?????

if you're going to custom build.... No parallel sides, you'll get reflection within the box. Hardwarz

    Decisions on a box?????

What's your goal? I personally use a single 12" JBL. I only want bass reinforcement, I don't care to bump. If you're looking to bump, I'd look into a band pass box that holds two 12". Hardwarz

    Brakes locking up

I believe that the Tahoe has front ABS. Why front only? So you can still steer while pannic stopping. I use to lock up my front brakes a lot. I finally fixed it along with my rotors that kept warping. I've had lots of warped rotors with my Tahoe. I've had the rotors machined, but still...

    A/C not kicking on

Autozone doesn't have these to loan out. I got my vacuum pump at a pawn shop. I've actually seen several of these over the years. If you get one, make sure it's for R134a, not R12. They are different fittings. If it is for R12, you can sometimes find an adapter to go to the R134a fitting...

    Wiring issues

When trying to troubleshoot an electrical problem that blows fuses, I suggest using a circuit breaker (The kind that replaces a fuse.) That way you don't have to keep replacing the fuse. From there, you have to find the short. Hardwarz

    A/C questions

    1) Depends directly with ambiant temprature. 2) Yes stop leak works for small leaks. If you have a large hole in your system, fix the problem first, replace the dryer, vacuum the system and then add in the stop leak/freon. 3)You always fill the low pressure port. Hardwarz

    Power Steering Pump

Ok, I replaced my pump. It was a pain in the ass. Why? because I couldn't find a direct replacement. My power steering pump had electrical connection to it and I couldn't find the direct replacement. Finally I bought the pump by its self. You can purchase just the pump without the...

    A/C not kicking on

Yes, that is important! If you have zero pressure, then most probably, everything has leaked out. If everything has leaked out, you need to find out if you have a leak. To find out if you have a leak, put the system into a vacuum. Leave it for several minutes. If it maintains a vacuum...

    Rear door child-safety windows

I'm not against anyone retrofitting somthing. All the power to whomever whants to do it. What I'm arguing is opportunity cost. What's your time worth? $10.00/hr? $15.00 per hour? More? Factoring in man-hours, parts, equipment you have to buy, etc, what does that total up to? If you...

    Rear door child-safety windows

Stock Tahoes and Surburbans around here for 2003/2004 are going for about $5k. Newer Yukons are only going for $8k used. No one is buying used SUVs in NE Ohio. (well at least during summer while there is no snow on the ground) Some people can afford more than one vehicle payment. Don't get...

    Rear door child-safety windows

Dump your Tahoe and buy a surburban. People around here have been doing anything they can to get rid of their full size SUVs due to fuel economy. Soon, full size SUVs will be the poor person's vehicle because they'll be cheap, but expensive to keep running. Hardwarz
