Default Chronic A/C problems, please help if you can
My girlfriend has a '03 Tahoe, 4.8l. For the past several months everytime we put a new A/C belt on, it snaps within 24 hours. We've noticed that when she makes a turn in her truck we can hear a loud racket, followed by the A/C stopping blowing for a few seconds. Once she comes out of the turn, the noise subsides and the A/C goes back to working as normal. But the belt usually breaks within 24 hours of putting a new one on and right after she makes a turn.

Also with it sitting idle, if you raise the RPM's up to around 2500 or so, you can hear a loud clacking noise that's coming from the tensioner pulley.

We've already replaced the entire tensioner pulley system once and the problem didn't go away. We were told by a certified GM mechanic that it was the brand of pulley we bought (Duralast) and we need to get a GM pulley. He crawled under the truck and could see the entire pulley flapping back and forth when we revved it up. He's the one that installed the new one.

I'm just curious if anyone else has had this problem and what fixed it if so. She's already spent a lot of money trying to get her A/C fixed.

Default

I have the same issue. I have read that it could be 'slugging' where the compressor tries compressing liquid slugs of freon.

When mine started I lost rear cooling (plugged TX valve) and it could be related since a systems designed for 2 evaporators is only circulating through 1.

The problem will not go away and you will break idlers and belts until it's fixed.
I just don't turn it on until I am at a steady highway speed as it seems to chatter during acceleration.

Report back if you solve it!
